Eventually, both your tools and weapons are going to break from prolonged use and you will have to repair them; here's how to do it and what you will need.
How to repair items in Valheim
To repair tools and weapons in Valheim, you will need a workbench; you can craft a workbench with ten wood, and once built, you will be able to repair all of your items via a hammer icon on the left of the workbench crafting tab. As a side note, make sure the items you want to repair are in your inventory before pressing the repair button; they also don't have to be on your hotbar, just in your inventory is fine enough.
Repairing items at the time of writing also doesn't appear to cost resources; because of that, you can fix anything in your inventory free of charge. However, before you can use a workbench to repair your items, you will need a roof over it; if you don't have a roof over your workbench, you will get a text popup saying the workbench requires a roof.

Because of this, you will generally need to build your workbench inside your base. However, it doesn't need to be your whole base, as you just need a thatch roof above it to use it. When you get a roof over the bench, you will be able to repair your items as we described. But to repair higher tier items, you will need to upgrade your workbench to a specific tier.
How to repair Bronze, and Iron items in Valheim
Once you advance tiers, any items you make that are either bronze or iron can't be repaired in a workbench, you will instead have to repair them in the same manner but inside a forge. That said, if you have either bronze or iron items, you probably already have a forge, but in case you don't know-how, you can make a forge with the following resources below.
Here's everything you need to make a forge; you will also need to use a hammer to craft it:
- Four stone
- Four coal
- Ten wood
- Six copper bars
